Orion Thermistor Expansion Module (up to 80 sensors per module)

Add high-density temperature sensing to Orion packs. Each module supports up to 80 thermistors over CAN. Chain up to 10 modules for as many as 800 thermistors.

Overview

The Orion Thermistor Expansion Module (TEM) extends the temperature-sensing capability of Orion BMS systems to protect cells and power electronics against thermal overload. It aggregates thermistor inputs and reports temperatures to the BMS over CAN 2.0B, enabling smarter limits (CCL/DCL), better thermal mapping, and safer operation.

Installation tips

  • CAN setup: Match bitrate/filters between TEM and Orion; assign unique node IDs.
  • Thermistor placement: Bond sensors to representative cells/modules and critical components; avoid airflow bias.
  • Harness routing: Keep away from HV busbars/traction cabling; separate from noisy conductors.
  • Commissioning: Verify channel mapping in the Orion utility and log temps during charge/discharge.
