What makes the Split configuration different?

Unlike the standard Orion 02 BMS (single, centralized unit), the Orion 02 Split BMS is designed to manage separate battery segments as part of a single BMS ecosystem. This unlocks smarter packaging and safer architectures when:

  • Packs are physically distributed across the platform (front/rear, port/starboard, wing/boom, etc.).
  • Space constraints prevent a single, large controller in one location.
  • Wiring runs must be shortened to reduce mass, resistance, and EMI concerns.
  • High-voltage isolation is required between sections for safety or compliance.
Harness note: The Split variant uses 24-cell tap harnesses for each 36-cell tap input on the controller.

What is a “split” BMS configuration?

It’s a topology where the BMS supervises multiple physically separated battery segments as one system—ideal when packs are distributed for packaging, weight balance, or isolation.

Does the Split BMS support isolation between sections?

Yes. The architecture allows high-voltage isolation between segments and retains Orion 02 safety, diagnostics, and contactor control.

Which harnesses does the Split BMS use?

Split units use 24-cell tap harnesses per 36-cell tap input on the controller. See the manuals in the Downloads section for pinouts.

Can I integrate with my VCU/charger over CAN?
